The concrete core of the systems provides a certified structural resistance to fire in excess of 60 minutes. Longer stability periods can be achieved by installing additional reinforcement to the structure as required. In all cases, the EPS used is a fire-retardant grade; this means in practice that the EPS will not sustain a flame and will extinguish upon removal of a flame in a fire situation.
The surface spread of flame is addressed by the internal and external finishes specified to Class B, or better, resistance to the spread of flame.
The EPS substrate, in conjunction with the base coat and the finish coat, gives a reaction to fire/ spread of flame as Class B-s1, d0.
The flame-retardant EPS is thus encased in an incombustible concrete core on the inside and a Class B render system on the exterior. This ensures that the requirements of Technical Guidance Document Part B for fire safety are met or exceeded.
